Overcoming existing limitations and reducing fleet operating costs, Cordillera is an advanced cabin emergency oxygen system for commercial and military passenger aircraft.
Our award-winning product, Cordillera, delivers breakthrough innovation replacing outdated oxygen systems onboard passenger aircraft.
Application of Caeli Nova’s innovative technology improves passenger oxygenation by exploiting the physiological effects of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Cordillera has been intensively tested to comply with international medical and regulatory requirements.
Cordillera has also been developed with extensive industry collaboration, across airlines and manufacturers.
In addition to keeping passengers safe, our innovative oxygenation solution overcomes historic capability limitations, enabling shorter flights, reduced fuel and carbon emissions, plus wider cost and sustainability benefits for airline operators.
Benefits of Cordillera
Improved safety
Cordillera enables a shallower descent profile to the emergency decompression diversion altitude. As a result, the operational flight crew have more time for decision making and management of the emergency situation.
The higher diversion altitude offered by Cordillera also reduces risks such as bird strike, icing and light aircraft traffic congestion, which could be encountered when operating at 10,000ft following a decompression situation.
Shorter flights, and lower costs
Cordillera delivers significant fuel and emissions benefits to aircraft operators in two notable use cases:
- Our technology enables aircraft to safely navigate existing high terrain airways, especially in the Himalayas region.
- Allowing airlines to operate the most direct routes reduces flight time, fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions.
- Cordillera is also an enabler for efficient flight planning for long routes over challenging terrain.
Increased payload
Enabling the flight to continue at a higher altitude following a decompression allows the airline to plan for more efficient and faster flying to the alternate destination, which applies to both ETOPS and high-terrain routes.
This will deliver benefits in a combination of fuel planning and payload management
Weight advantages and wider benefits across the airline value chain
Cordillera has been developed with extensive industry collaboration, across airlines and manufacturers.
In addition to the significant reduction in fuel to fly routes, Cordillera is lighter than equipment found on aircraft today. Retrofitting Cordillera, delivers weight benefits to the existing in-service fleet of aircraft across a wide range of airline operators.
The solution
Developed to overcome existing limitations
Emergency oxygen is a key system that protects passengers in the rare event of a loss of cabin pressure. Existing systems have typically protected passengers for only a short time period and therefore in the event of a decompression, the aircraft was required to make a steep descent to a safe breathing altitude, typically 10,000ft. As a result of this, operators have experienced several operational, financial and sustainability related limitations.
With the application of our core technology to improve the oxygenation of passengers in the event of a decompression, Cordillera has been designed to overcome these limitations.
Cordillera reduces the flight safety risks associated with a steep descent profile and operating at 10,000ft in a decompression event.
Cordillera enables airlines to fly the most direct routes, reducing fuel and carbon emissions on certain routes.
What is Cordillera?
Cordillera is a retrofittable emergency oxygen system that replaces existing installations with minor disruption to the operator.
Use cases and benefits
By overcoming existing limitations, Cordillera enables aircraft to operate safely on the most direct airways in high terrain regions. As a result, passengers will enjoy shorter flying times, and aircraft will have fuel and carbon emission reductions.

Overcoming airspace closure
With the closure of the main East/West air routes over Afghanistan as well as current restrictions forcing airlines to avoid Russian airspace, carriers are now having to operate contingency routes, which are significantly longer, consuming more fuel and increasing emissions.
Cordillera overcomes existing oxygen limitations, allowing airlines to navigate geo-political instability and enable more efficient routings, whilst mitigating the increased operational costs associated with airspace closures.

In addition, by enabling shorter flying times, Cordillera delivers wider operational benefits to the airline operator.
Cordillera is also enabler for more efficient flight planning on long routes over challenging terrain.
Certification and installation
Development of Cordillera commenced in mid-2018 when we began the recruitment of our Engineering team. Since then we have intensively tested Cordillera, in order to demonstrate compliance with international medical and regulatory requirements.
Cordillera is being offered initially as a retrofit solution, that can be installed under a Supplementary Type Certificate authored by Caeli Nova’s in-house aerospace design team. Having this in-house capability will enable us to support our customers throughout the process, resulting in a swift and smooth installation.
Caeli Nova maintain a CAA Part 21J approval.

Featuring carefully considered cutting edge aerospace design, Cordillera has been developed to enable swift retrofit installation overnight. This will allow operators to implement an accelerated retrofit plan across the fleet, ensuring a rapid delivery of benefits to the operator.
